Design Content Early
Language shapes the way we view and experience the world. Knowing what we want to say is the key to knowing how we want to say it. When we bring meaningful text into the discussion earlier in the design process, we ease the creation of user flows, layouts, interactions, and components.
Design for Developers
Designers who approach their work with developers in mind, create more practical, feasible, and impactful experiences. Thinking like a developer means adopting a systems mindset to design scalable components, patterns, and states.
During design reviews, developers, architects, and testers have all uncovered edge cases, interactions, and behaviors I might have otherwise missed. Identifying technical limitations earlier on in the design process helps direct time towards accessible, scalable solutions.
Objectivity Over Subjectivity
Feedback grounded in objective criteria gives concrete insights that can help meet user needs and business goals, despite the inherent subjectivity of design.
In design reviews, focusing on objectivity encourages constructive collaboration and helps tie feedback to real user needs and design principles, not just personal preference alone.
I’m inspired by the sculpture, 'Bent of Mind,' by Tony Cragg. While moving around the sculpture, various human profiles rise and fall like waves depending on where you stand. This piece reminds me of the importance of moving my feet to view the unknowns from different perspectives. There are 360 degrees in a circle, and I want to experience as many as possible.
